2010 Session Wrap-Up
The Transportation Funding Criteria Bill HB 1155/SB 760 ensures that state transportation funding will now be aligned with state goals including climate change and smart growth.

- SB51, HB461: Require a safer, 3’ passing distance for overtaking bicycles or pedestrians. Passed!
- SB624, HB1193: Allows bicyclists to leave the shoulder when it is not safe to bike there. Passed!
- HB282: Requires more funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Passed!
- SB229, HB710: Establishes a commission to study better transportation funding mechanisms. Passed!
- SB350: Would have expanded the definition of Transit Oriented Development to 1 mile. Died in committee.
- SB648: Would require an environmental impact study for a third bridge crossing. Died in committee.
- HB1377: Would have required a regional transportation impact study for large developments. Died in committee.
- HB388: Would have created greater liability for motorists for accidents, including those with bicycles or pedestrians. Died in committee.
- HB1404: Would have required MDOT to analyze their process for reviewing and choosing transit projects, with a goal of creating greater parity between transit and highway funding. Died in committee.
- SB827: Would have indexed the motor fuel tax against the cost of construction. Died in committee.
- HB1161: Would allow certain hospitals to qualify for specialized Transit Oriented Development funding. Passed.
